We are very sorry to report the sudden death of Robin Momber, on the 1st May, aged 84. He was currently a member of the Executive Committee of the Falmouth Civic Society, of which he had previously been Chairman for 14 years, and he was also currently Chairman of Falmouth Conservation Area Advisory Committee. In these and other ways he expressed his strong sense of service to the community, and his special interest in promoting quality developments in Falmouth and conserving its historic heritage.

He had read history at Trinity College, Cambridge and, after voluntary service in the Royal Navy from 1943 to the end of the war, he had spent his entire career in a shipping agency, Killick Martin, of which he became Director. He retired to Falmouth in 1986. His love of the sea extended to his leisure time: he was a keen yachtsman, and a member of the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club, and he had been a founder member of the Helford River Sailing Club; so it is not surprising that he chose to live in Mulberry Quay on the edge of Falmouth Harbour.

He was a man of strong views and was forthright in their expression. Yet he had a strong sense of humour and a warm and loveable personality. He leaves behind his wife Valerie and sons Hugh and Adrian, five grandchildren and two elder sisters, Dianna Momber and Bee MacKenzie. Shortly before his death, and without any thought that the end was near, he had declared that he had been very lucky and had had a very happy and interesting life. He will be greatly missed.
