The attendance at this year's AGM was rather disappointing and was attended by a mere 18 members.
It was a shame as our guest speaker, Prof.Alan Livingston, gave a most enjoyable talk on the relationship between the CUC and the town referring to the development |
of the Tremough Campus and its appeal to students far and wide.
Prof. Eric Roberts was elected unanimously as Chairman for a further year as were the Secretary, Treasurer and members of the committee . We are grateful to those who attended and supported the Executive Committee. |
Social Activities
Cream Teas were held in the King Charles Coffee Shop, as usual, on three occasions since the last AGM: 27th.May and 30th.September 2008, and on 13th.January 2009. Terry Outing arranged the supply of food and she was ably assisted by Myra Morris, Felicity Nicholson, Veronica Whale and Angela Shields. The cream teas not only provide occasions when members |
o f our society and their guests can meet informally, but also give us the opportunity to listen to a speaker on some topic of interest to the Society.
During the past 12 months we heard talks i n May 08 from Michael Swift, Chairman, Truro Civic Society, who talked about the activities of their society. And Brinley Morris continued his series of talks on the history of Falmouth: i n September he talked on "The Packet Ships" and their importance to the development of Falmouth; and in February he told us about "The Plight of the Poor in the 18th. and 19th.Centuries".
We really learn a great deal from these talks and look forward to more from Brinley in the future. Those who were unable to attend the Cream Teas can find precis of these talks on our web site. |
